Hunting

Hunting is a sport of going into the wilderness and tracking a certain game animal to kill it. Hunters use different types of weapons for different types of game. Bird hunters use dogs to help them find the game bird and retrieve them after they have been shot down. Hunters normally use shotguns to hunt game birds. Shotguns shoot hundreds of tiny lead balls that come in a shotgun shell. There are a few different sizes of shotguns. They are called gauges, some are more powerful and hold a bigger shell and some are less powerful and hold a smaller shell. The sizes of shotguns from most powerful too least powerful are, 10 gauge, 12 gauge, 16 gauge, 20 gauge, 28 gauge, and 410 gauge.

Some hunters will even use shotguns to hunt big game such as deer. These hunters will use a bigger shell, which holds a bullet called a slug. Or they may even use what is called buckshot, which is a shell with bigger lead balls.

The game bird hunters use dogs to help them hunt, here are some names of the most known dogs they use, English Pointer, German Shorthaired Pointer, and Labrador Retrievers. These dogs will use there very good nose to sniff and find the game birds, when they get close to the game birds they freeze up and look in the direction of the birds. The hunter will then walk up in front of the dog and “flush” the birds when the birds fly the hunter will shoot, if the hunter gets a bird or two the dog will run to where the birds are and grab them one at a time in there mouth and bring it back to the hunter. This goes on until the day ends or the hunter has his limit of game birds.
