The main theme of Hamlet is how different people’s actions can affect you and others around you. In Hamlet there are displays of hatred, sadness, and affection. These emotions are shown by all of the characters.
Hamlet finds out how his father, King Hamlet, was really killed by his uncle. His uncle married his mother shortly after. Hamlet is convinced that his mother had a role in his father’s misfortune, and thought she should have grieved longer considering how they were in love. He dedicates all of his energy to revenging his father’s death, and finding out who else was apart in it.
Hamlet starts acting in madness. The king calls on his friend Polonius, also the king of France. Knowing that Hamlet has shown affection towards the princess of France, Ophelia, they come to the conclusion that his madness could be caused by love . The king and Polonius have Ophelia give Hamlet his letters that he had written. Hamlet expresses how he loves Ophelia and quickly gets angry after realizing that she wouldn’t do this. He knew her father would have had to put her up to it.
After a series of unfortunate happenings, Ophelia has a breakdown. She tells how she loved young Hamlet, and even had intimate relations with him. She committed suicide and was pronounced to have a Christian burial, even though suicide was considered a sin. Hamlet shows that he grieves. He states to the king, Ophelia’s brother, and his mom that not even 4,000 brothers could have the love that he had for Ophelia.
