I am all for allowing music in class. I believe this for three reasons. Music can help some people concentrate, it is entertaining, and it calms people down.
The first reason why I believe music should be allowed in class is it helps some people concentrate. For example, a lot of my friends and I focus a lot better on something while listening to music. It also helps me concentrate by taking the nerve off.
Next, I believe that music will entertain us in class when class gets boring. When your teacher gives you the assignment to do and he or she wants it done by the end of class its usually boring, so I feel it is more entertaining to do my school work while I listen to music.
Finally, my last reason I have is music can be calming. My sophomore year my welding teacher allowed us to listen to our music while we welded because it helped relieve the stress of it. You’re not as worried about making a mistake because you’re listening to something you enjoy.
I am open for compromise. For example, I’d be okay with allowing only one head phone in with the volume at a level that only you can hear it. I would be just fine with not allowing music in gym class for people wouldn’t get involved in activity because they don’t want their music broken.
In conclusion I am all for allowing music in class for it can help some people concentrate, it will make class more entertaining, and it can be calming. As I stated I am open for compromise. These are the reasons why I believe that music should be allowed in class.

School Uniforms
There are a few positives of having uniforms. For example, there wouldn’t be as much inappropriate clothing, kids wouldn’t have trouble finding outfits in the mornings and people couldn’t really talk bad about the way other students were dressing because they would look similar. Even though these ideas seem great, I don’t agree. Here’s the way I see it. Uniforms would eliminate originality, it would start to cause more separation in school and the standards of the schools dress code would still be violated. I’ll expand on these ideas.
Originality is a huge deal to teens. We don’t feel like we’re understood in general, so clothing is just an expression. How you dress represents how you feel. To give a personal example, when I feel sad, I usually dress in sweats or comfy clothes to make me feel better. If I had to dress in an outfit I disliked and I was having a bad morning, it would just add onto everything that seemed to be going wrong. A lot of people tend to follow trends, but there are select few that strive to be different in the world. You don’t want to take that away, do you?
Let’s talk about separation. Kids want to be popular, have a lot of friends and be liked and admired by as many peers as possible. What is popular? Expensive, high end clothes, rich, nice houses? Yes. Exactly. Even if you decided to go through with putting uniforms into schools, it would definitely not even begin to solve this problem. Parents would buy their kids the highest end brand clothes they could get so their children would still look good in their uniforms and be confident that they do. Tan pants with a polo. You can buy that at the DI, and the kids with the nicer clothes would notice and let you know they noticed.
There are many violations of dress code everyday, and I know you think uniforms might solve this problem. You’re wrong. Girls can still pull up their skirts a little higher and higher each day. Students will alter and add accessories to these uniforms and it will be just as inappropriate as if it was normal dress. The administration needs to be stricter on what they allow, not try to change the dress policy.
I know it seems like adding uniforms would be a good addition, but it would take away all that the high school students have. We don’t have control over how we’re supposed to behave, homework or what teachers we have. Please let us choose what we’re able to wear and how we express ourselves.

Backpacks in School
I think that backpacks should not be allowed in school. There are many reasons why backpacks are a nuisance and hazard. People could easily bring dangerous or illegal things to school. Backpacks also can cause injury to students and teachers. Backpacks are more trouble then their worth.
A great reason to not have backpacks in school is physical injury. An example would be younger or smaller students getting irreparable damage done to their spines by the loads they have to carry on their backs. Due to these injuries families could sue the schools or the districts. Carrying so much stuff is also cumbersome and uncomfortable.
Another reason why book bags should be banned is the fact that they clutter up classrooms and block pathways. Backpacks all over the floor make teacher access to students more restricted and difficult. Backpacks also block walkways that could be needed in case of a fire. Also, backpacks are easy to trip on and cause bodily harm
.
Finally, book bags help facilitate students in bringing weapons or drugs to school. Backpacks are difficult to search and can harbor large weapons and ammunition or illicit substances and paraphernalia. Quite simply they make it easier to bring dangerous items to school.

ipods in School
Dear Administrators
I think that kids should be able to have iPods in school because kids could work faster. If kids could work faster, then they don’t have to have homework, they stay on task, and they would get their work done on time. Kids like to listen to music when they work and I have seen that they like to get their work done.
Another reason that I have is that kids could work harder, they could get good grades, a good education, and they would be abler to get all of their work right. I have seen kids work harder with iPods or music for them to listen to. When I’m working on a project or I’m cleaning something I like to listen to music because it helps me work faster, and I like to work harder on the thing that I’m doing.

My reasons are is if they get their work done then they have more time for fun, wont get distracted from others while their doing their work, and they could help others when their done with their work. The Five Senses
In class today we talked about the five senses and which one you would give up if you had to. I chose smell because I love to see new things, and if I couldn’t see things, I would not like life. I also love to hear sounds and music. I can sit for hours just listening to one song. In fact I am listening to music right now. I can feel softness and roughness, and I would like to keep it that way. If I lost my sense of touch, I would not be able to tell if someone was touching me or not. The next sense I would not be willing to give up would be taste. I love tasting new foods, disgusting ones and good ones. That would be almost suicidal to give up. I can’t even think about what life would be like without these four senses. The easiest to think of myself without would be smell. I think I could live without that but it would be extremely annoying. I know most people would give up taste or something, but I wouldn’t because there would be no point in eating. I would definitely give up smell.

The kind of music that I’m into is country, hip-hop, and pop music. I like those because I grew up with those. I also like to listen to techno because it cheers me up when I’m down. I have been listening to country ever since I was little. For Christmas my family has always given me county music for me to listen to. When I’m sad or depressed I listen to county music because it reminds me of my family. Me and my family love country music, and while I’m in this program I listen to it because it tells me that I need to go back home to my family.
What makes bad music suck is the language. In a lot of rap songs rappers say swear words after every other word. Like in country the artist might say a little swear word like the A word or Hell. They don’t say the F bomb or any of the other swear words. That’s why I like country because they don’t say that much swear words. When rappers swear 50 times in their songs I don’t think that’s cool, and I don’t see how people like listening to it.
I don’t think that genre matters because if you write a song then that’s great. Not many people can write songs, and if you like country or hip hop then that’s the kind of music you like. All songs should get respect. The only songs that I don’t think should get respect is the songs that say a swear word after every other word. What do you think of the ghost in Hamlet? So far I think that the ghost is benevolent. The reason why is because so far the ghost hasn’t done anything to be evil. Also now the plot has changed because since Hamlet has seen the ghost, Hamlet has acted like he needs Ophelia just for her love because she banned him from all contact from her.
As I have been reading Hamlet, I have started to think about other plays from Shakespeare that I want to read. The reason why is because hamlet makes you think about what you are reading. So far with the way Hamlet is going I want to read every other play that Shakespeare has written. I think that Shakespeare is a talented writer because he writes in rhythm and it is easy to read and to memorize.
